Research Projects

My project aims to look at the regulation of expression of MTBE-biodegradation pathway genes of the bacterium Methylibium petroleiphilum PM1. This organism has the unique capability to mineralize Methyl-tert-Butyl Ether (MTBE), a groundwater contaminant in California, and I am studying the genetic regulation of this pathway. I am also studying the abundance of these degradation genes in MTBE-contaminated environmental samples.

Awesome classes new students must take

SSC 105/205 A Field Survey of California Soils (two weeks of camping and getting your hands dirty all across the state – highly recommended! :) )

SSC 111 Soil Microbiology and SSC 211 Advanced Soil Microbiology, where you can learn a lot about microorganisms in soil and various methods used to study them.

SSC 219 Ecosystem Biogeochemistry

ETX 214 Mechanisms of Toxic Action

PLP 40 Edible Mushroom Cultivation
